At the beginning of conceiving the project, I tended to focus on the problem of passing down traditional skills and show the two subjects’ opinions on the issue. [[But]] But I finally adjusted my aims. The revised purposes are: [[1]][[2]][[3]][[4]]Exploring Zhang’s work status and his opinions to his career; Displaying Chen’s background and his thoughts about preserving traditional culture. [[2]]Exploring Chinese national strategies and changes’ influences on my subjects.[[3]]Discussing why traditional culture is always the priority of many Chinese media students’ project. [[4]]Try to tell a story from my perspective. [[In another words]]link the subjects and ‘plots’ through my experiences and thoughts. [[thoughts]]This change is based upon my further [[research]] to my subjects and study on first-person film. Firstly, the two characters’ characters are different. Zhang is traditional and frank. Exploring his experiences and relevant history context is possible. As for Chen, after analysing archives I could find, I believe he is good at ‘showing’ in front of media, what he said always serve for his business and fame. So I decided to put him in a ‘subordinate position’ in this film. But I think he could offer some ideas about cultural preservation in current society. Secondly, I once interviewed them few years ago actually, and I am always [[interested]] in traditional culture. Recently I have watched some first-person docs and read essays about this kind of film. I reckon it is a chance to practice making a first-person film. The research on the question mentioned in aim 3 is a chance to combine various media platforms and content resources in a documentary for me. I tend to devote myself to the ‘combination type of innovation’ in the future, so this film is also a experimental try from this point. [[Aims]]I also decided to use a tape recorder to shoot the two subjects for a feeling of [[nostalgia]]. Before interviewing Zhang, I called him twice and sent him some cakes as gift. He told me a man would go to his home for repairing his kid’s liuqin, so I could interview and shoot relevant materials on the same day. The process of filming Chen is more dramatic, whatever I asked him, he always tried to answer the questions on behalf of himself... But I believe I still got what I need from him. I do believe his spirit of innovation is what traditional art needs in this [[crazy society]]. In the post-production phase, I have paid more attention on control the tempo of the film. To be honest, music’s function is subtle here. Without any music, I can keep a point-blank style but some sections do need music. Basically, it is about a kind of balance and my solution is adding another music before as a transition. [[Production Process]]
